Richie’s passion for music began in the early 90s where he was drawn to the free party movement in the English countryside. People from all walks of life danced in unity to huge sound systems playing jungle tekno, free from the holds of commercial clubs and bars in the nearby cities.

Organising free parties became a way of life for Richie and the Slackbanta collective but when the authorities in England tabooed the free party spirit he began to focus on fundraising events. Dance 4 Tibet was born and donations received at the dance parties were sent to NGO’s in northern India to help Tibetan political prisoners, orphans and refugees.

Travels abroad started to influence his DJ selection and a residency at inSpiral, London exposed him to more global sounds, cutting edge psydub and ethnic electronic fusion. Richie began organising themed events in London, inviting a range of eclectic musicians and his style embodied these influences.

Next came the UK festival period with Smokey Tentacles, a broader audience and the freedom to experiment. Balkan, brass and folk are widely played at the festivals, and with Richie’s past firmly rooted in the underground sound, his sets manifested into an organic amalgamation of positive dub, folk techno, gypsy breakbeats and ethnowonk. Richie also has a reputation for including tunes from bedroom producers, believing there is much unheard talent hidden in the basement.
